        <p>The article presents main results of the research on reliability of gas pumping machinery operated by Russian gas transport companies. Mechanical defects of journal bearings, gears and couplings of gas pumping units, caused by wear and fatigue, are examined. In order to improve the operational reliability of gas pumping units, a new technology of friction surfaces modification by applying fluorine-containing film coatings is introduced. The article analyzes the main results of testing the technology on gas pumping units.</p>
