        <p>The paper presents an essayy on the life and scientific work of the Russian scientist and public figure Ivan Andreevich Shlatter, who was President of the Collegium of Mining and at the same time Director of the St. Petersburg Mint. His major studies on the coin business, art, assay, mining and metallurgy served as manuals for students of mining-factory schools, students of the Mining school, and then the Mining cadet corps. A magnificent silver reliquary for the relics of St. Alexander Nevsky was made under I.A. Schlatter’s the leadership.</p>
