EFFECT OF LASER TREATMENT OF ALUMINUM ALLOY SURFACE ON METAL-POLYMER ADHESION
This paper investigates the effect of laser surface treatment on the adhesion between D16AM aluminum alloy and thermoplastic polyurethane. By measuring the shear strength, we showed the effect of: preliminary surface cleaning of aluminum alloy; chemical etching and electrochemical anodizing; a combination of etching or anodizing methods with laser surface treatment. High power density in laser treatment allows not only modifying the surface, but also cleaning it from an organic contaminant. It is shown that several types of combined treatment of metal allow obtaining the shear strength above the yield strength of the polymer and is no less than 50%. In addition, the work shows that the effect of the sequence of laser treatment allows increasing the shear strength by 10%.
